DEVOTIONS

1 Corinthians 15:1-4: Gospel

Day 1: It’s Not About You

1 Corinthians 15:3–4 For I passed on to you as most important what I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.

The world is sending you a message: “It’s all about you”. Your social media feeds, your shopping experiences, even your coffee order—it’s all tailored around your preferences, your tastes, or your desires. So it’s not surprising that we sometimes drift into thinking that the Gospel is about us too. But when we truly understand that Gospel, it changes everything.

The Good News isn’t about you. It’s about God. It’s about Jesus dying for our sins. It’s about Jesus being buried. It’s about Jesus being raised from the grave. You aren’t the hero of the story—Jesus is.

When you make the Gospel about you—your efforts, your goodness, your achievements—you turn the Good News into bad news. It becomes a crushing burden because you can never be good enough. But when you remember that the Gospel is about Jesus—His life, death, and resurrection—you can breathe again. Freedom replaces frustration.

You don’t have to carry the weight of saving yourself. You don’t have to be the main character. You get to be the one who’s rescued, redeemed, and loved by the real Hero—Jesus.

Today, resist the pull to make your faith about your performance. Let your heart rest in this simple, freeing truth: it’s about Jesus. It’s about what He has already done. And because it’s about Him, it’s good news for you.

Prayer: Jesus, thank You that the Gospel isn’t about my efforts. Thank you that it’s about Your finished work. Help me remember that today and to live with joy because the spotlight is on You, not me. Amen.

Day 2:  The Good News Is for You

1 Corinthians 15:1–2 Now I want to make clear for you, brothers and sisters, the Gospel I preached to you, which you received, on which you have taken your stand and by which you are being saved…

Maybe you’ve heard the Gospel a thousand times before. Maybe you could recite the basics in your sleep. But let me ask you—do you really believe the Gospel is for you?

It’s easy to believe the Good News is for “people like that”, like for people more broken than you, or for people better than you. It’s for them but not for you. It’s easy to think you’re too far gone, too messed up, too weak, or too doubting. But Scripture makes it clear: the Gospel is not just true—it’s personal. It’s for you.

Paul says this Gospel was received, taken a stand on, and is the very means by which you are being saved. It’s not some abstract theology lesson. It’s not background noise to the Christian life. It’s the foundation you’re meant to stand on every day.

So if you’re weighed down by shame, overwhelmed by guilt, or exhausted from trying to hold it all together, hear this clearly: the Gospel is for you. Jesus didn’t come to offer inspiration. He came to accomplish salvation—for you, right where you are.

Receive it. Stand in it. Rest in it. You don’t have to fix yourself first. You simply have to fall into the arms of grace stretched wide for you on the cross.

Prayer: Father, sometimes I doubt Your grace could really be for me. Remind me today that the Gospel isn’t just true—it’s personal to me. Help me stand in the freedom You offer through Jesus. Amen.

Day 3: The Only Hope That Holds

Acts 4:12 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to people by which we must be saved.

The world offers a thousand lifeboats—and none of them float. Money, success, self-improvement, relationships, religion without Jesus—they all promise safety, meaning, and security. But when the ship is sinking and eternity is on the line, only one name saves: Jesus.

The Gospel isn’t one good idea among many. It’s the only hope that holds. It’s not one of several options—it’s the only rescue.

When we believe this, it changes how we live.

  • We stop looking for lesser saviors.
  • We stop pretending that politics, popularity, or personal strength can carry us.
  • We cling to Christ.

And if we believe He’s the only hope, we have to tell others too.

Someone around you today is clinging to a pool noodle, thinking it’ll keep them afloat. Will you point them to the real lifeboat? Will you love them enough to tell them about Jesus—the only name that saves?

The Good News is the world’s hope. But it can’t stay bottled up inside the walls of the church. It’s meant to be shared with love, urgency, and the unshakable confidence that Jesus is enough.

Prayer: Lord, thank You that salvation is found in Jesus alone. Help me stop looking for hope in all the wrong places and give me courage to point others to You. Amen.

Day 4: Lay Down the Weight

1 Corinthians 15:1 Now I want to make clear for you, brothers and sisters, the Gospel I preached to you, which you received…

Have you ever picked up something way too heavy but you tried to carry it anyway because you didn’t want to ask for help? Maybe it was groceries, furniture, or emotional burdens. Either way, you thought, “I’ve got this”. Until you didn’t.

That’s how many of us approach life with God. We hear the Gospel and we believe it in theory, but then we load ourselves down with guilt, shame, fear, and pressure. We think we need to prove we’re worth saving. We act like the Gospel got us started, but now it’s up to us to finish strong.

Paul reminds us that the Gospel isn’t something you graduate from. It’s something you receive. Not achieve. Not maintain through performance. Just receive.

Lay down the weight today. Stop carrying burdens Jesus already carried to the cross. Stand in the Gospel—not your strength, not your success, and not your ability to look put together. Stand in the rescue only Jesus provides.

Prayer: Father, I don’t want to live like I have to earn what You’ve already freely given me. Help me stand firm in the Gospel today and let go of everything You never asked me to carry.

Day 5: A Gospel Worth Standing On

1 Corinthians 15:1 …the Gospel I preached to you, which you received, on which you have taken your stand…

Everyone builds their life on something.

  • Some people stand on career success.
  • Some people stand on relationships.
  • Some people stand on achievements.
  • Some people even stand on religious activity.

But all of those foundations eventually crumble. Careers stall. People disappoint. Achievements fade.

Paul says the Gospel is something you can stand on. It’s solid. It’s unshakable. It’s not wishful thinking or a motivational speech. It’s the historic, unchanging, blood-bought rescue plan of God through Jesus Christ.

When the storms of life inevitably come, the Gospel doesn’t move. Jesus doesn’t change. His death and resurrection are just as true in the darkest valley as they are on the brightest day.

So plant your feet today. When doubts creep in, when fear tries to take over, when failure whispers that you’re not enough—stand. Stand on the Gospel. Stand on the love that already secured your place in the family of God.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, when everything else feels shaky, help me stand firm in You. Remind me that my security isn’t based on my performance; it’s based on Your finished work.

Day 6: Victory Has a Name

1 Corinthians 15:4 …that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures…

The resurrection of Jesus isn’t just a nice ending to the story. It’s the victory that changes everything. Without it, Christianity collapses. Without it, we have no hope beyond today. Without it, we are still separated from God.

But the tomb is empty. Jesus lives. And because He lives, your past can be forgiven, your present can be transformed, and your future is secure.

Victory isn’t just an idea; it’s a person. Victory has a name: Jesus.

  • When the enemy tries to accuse you, point to the empty tomb.
  • When you feel stuck in old patterns, remember the power that raised Christ is alive in you.
  • When you’re scared about what tomorrow holds, rest in the victory Jesus already won.

Today, let resurrection hope shape the way you see everything. You’re not fighting for victory; you’re living from it.

Prayer: Risen King, thank You that Your victory is mine by grace. Help me live today in the light of the empty tomb. Fill me with confidence, courage, and joy in You.

Day 7: Salvation Is a Gift, Not a Project

Ephesians 2:8–9 For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift—not from works, so that no one can boast.

Isn’t it tempting to treat salvation like a project you have to manage? Almost like God handed us the starter kit, and now it’s on us to build a spiritual skyscraper—piece by exhausting piece.

But Scripture says salvation is a gift. It’s not a DIY project, it’s not about patching yourself up or polishing yourself until you shine. It’s about receiving what only God could provide.

You don’t have to perform for grace and salvation. You don’t have to maintain your worth. You don’t have to live like God’s love is hanging by a thread.

Because of the Gospel, you are free to live from love, not for it.

Today, let go of the pressure. Refuse the lie that you have to earn what has already been finished. Stand under the waterfall of grace that never runs dry.

Salvation isn’t about what you can do for God. Salvation’s about what He has already done for you.

Prayer: God, help me stop trying to earn what You’ve already given. Let me live with the joy and peace of someone who’s been rescued, not someone trying to save themselves.
